The Jayco Silverline slideout caravan has a futuristic sleek exterior which gives you just a hint of what to expect inside. On the outside it comes complete with a roll out awning, spare wheel covered on the draw bar and on the roof, a satellite dish, wind up antenna and solar panel. Two gas bottles are in a front compartment that has a slide out feature to make checking levels quick and easy. There is a gas oven inside the van and also an external connection for your BBQ. Still on the outside there is a nifty little tray table for your drinks and a compartment that has an arm to attach a television to for those unmissable events even on holidays.

The van has a slide out module which enables the large east/west bed to extend out further and give ample room inside to access the many cupboards with shelves and hanging space and enables access to the slick ensuite.

Jayco have taken a leaf out of house interior design with the ensuite décor including the basin, tapware and mirrors all something you’d be happy with at home. The bathroom has a small washing machine neatly tucked away in one of the many cupboards. I was one of those people that once scoffed at the necessity of a washing machine in a caravan, until I had one.  It is very useful and saves time and money when you’re travelling, in not having to use caravan park laundries.  It can even be used when you free camp, using water carried in the onboard water tanks.

The kitchen has deep slide out drawers another great idea to save scrambling around in low cupboards searching for pots and pans. There is plenty of overhead storage too and the LED lighting throughout the van is bright and effective.  The kitchen comes complete with a full size fridge with separate freezer compartment, an inbuilt microwave oven, a cupboard to specifically store the wine glasses (very important) and another cupboard with a pull out pantry.

The layout is extremely practical with a leather covered club lounge/dinette seating at the front of the van and large windows to take advantage of the views wherever you park it. The large windows throughout the van will bring the outdoors in when touring.

All other mod cons are included from air conditioning, TV / DVD player and stereo with Bluetooth and internal and external speakers. Jayco have thought of it all with handy cutout sections in the walls that reveal themselves when the bedroom slide out is extended, enabling you to store a book, kindle, ipad or phone and even charge it in the power sockets fitted inside. There is a Drifter display unit that monitors water tank levels and the 12 V battery charge levels. It even gives you an estimated battery charge time to discharge so you know how you’re going in free camp situations.

It just looks pretty swish from the moment you step inside. It’s bright and modern, practical and perfect for ultra-comfortable ‘camping’ without being too big to tow and park with ease, especially with the reversing camera fitted to take the guesswork or arguments out of the equation.

And why a caravan review? Well it happens to be our latest upgrade which we happily picked up yesterday from SA Caravans at Klemzig. Graham and Stewart were terrific to deal with and made trading in our Jayco Sterling van for this 2016 Jayco Silverline easy and worry free.

They were very experienced, professional and looked after us well. I would highly recommend taking a look at their yard if you’re in the market for a good quality second hand caravan, camper or Winnebago, all of which they had in their plentiful stock.  The vans of all different makes and models are checked and cleaned thoroughly before going on the market and the few little extra requests we had were met with no problems.
