Finding the Resort at Home

Well we are seeing a lot of our homes lately so may as well make the most of our imaginations and create your own resort at home, especially while the weather is still warm enough to be getting outdoors and enjoying our gardens and sunshine. For a while now I’ve been finding inspiration from an Australian photographer and stylist, whose work I love, especially because of the mood her photographs portray.

Her name is Kara Rosenlund and her photos give a warm and dreamy quality to all sorts of everyday items and she uses light so well in capturing Australian landscapes and lifestyle. Following her work over the past few years has inspired me to look at things in a new light and practicing around the house is a great way to learn more about how to see with your camera and try different techniques to capture everyday objects in an interesting way.

By looking at little sections of your house and garden you can train your eye to see things as if framed in a photograph and you can even try making vignettes (or a grouping of objects) in the home to decorate and tell a story of who you are and what your interests are.

I was inspired to try and photograph little pieces of home to find that resort feel when we have no idea when we will actually be able to travel and find our own versions of paradise.

It’s as easy as waiting for the right light to hit certain pockets of your house or garden and taking photos of the things that bring you joy, in my case certain plants and flowers, shell collections and glimpses of the sea. You may even find unexpected wildlife visitors while you’re taking a closer look around.

One thing it does do is make you realise how lucky we are to be able to enjoy these little things even though life is looking so different in other ways.

Cheers and enjoy your home resort.

  1. We are not letting days spent in isolation go to waste either. We capture small yet memorable moments from our day to day movements and it’s gonna be so much fun to look back on them in years to come. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 😀 Aiva
