Southern Surf Festival ~ Middleton 2022

The 2022 Southern Surf Festival begins tomorrow, Friday 29th April, and runs over the weekend to celebrate South Australian surfing and surf competition. The setting for the festival is the popular Middleton Point on the Fleurieu Peninsula, a beach that’s always a consistent choice for surfers of all levels, with board riders taking to the waves throughout the year.

The festival will feature competitors vying for State Championship titles in short board, longboard and kneeboard surfing and is inclusive of all ages and abilities. There are different events to enter including juniors, masters and para surfing titles and prizes of surfboards, wetsuits and more are up for grabs.

As well as the surfing spectacle there will be food trucks, surf art, music, board swaps and surf schools will be operating on the Sunday for those that want to give surfing a go. Sunday is also the day for inter club competitions with clubs from all over the state descending on Middleton.

The weekend is organised by Surfing South Australia with the support of local sponsors and community groups, and whether you are into surfing or not, it will be a colourful and lively spectacle to watch.

Middleton is also a well-known whale watching area and anytime from now on these giant creatures of the deep could make an appearance as they migrate to these warmer waters from Antarctica.

There are lots of vantage points along the cliff tops or beach to watch and enjoy, just be prepared to park the car and walk.

Cheers

Glenys
