In case people aren’t aware, Dometic have issued a recall for a couple of their caravan fridges due to an overheating issue.
The refrigerators were sold between July 2018 and December 2020, and the models affected are Dometic’s RUA 6408X two-door 188L absorption unit, and its RUA 8408X two-door 224L absorption unit.
According to Dometic, if the fridge is running on 12V DC from either the house battery or off the tow vehicle, a small wiring loom at the back of the fridge can overheat and char. There is a chance then that if there is any foreign combustible material in the vicinity behind the fridge, it could lead to a fire.
The recalled serial number ranges are:
MB 82200938 to MB 85100130
MB 90200892 to MB 95200685
MB 00100565 to MB 03701182
A search function can be found on the Dometic website which shows where to find the model and serial number of the fridges affected.
Product Safety Australia advises that if yours is one of the models affected you should stop using the product on AUTO settings immediately, and contact Dometic to arrange for fitment of a replacement wiring loom free of charge.

They advise that the fridge can continue to be used on either gas or AC.
If your caravan has a Dometic brand fridge, check it now and advise fellow caravanners in case they weren’t aware of the recall either.
Cheers
Glenys

Ours is a Thetford so it’s fine. Lucky you found out.

Ours is Thetford too, but I’m glad I’ve helped others find out before problems hit.

Good idea we only knew about this through a friend who knew nothing until his wiring fused and the repairer said it’s lucky his van didn’t burn down! Repairer didn’t even know about recall, and now I’ve had one other friend say that they’ve checked and their fridge is on the recall list too.
