Yorke Peninsula Art Trail

South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula is full of natural beauty with white sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and abundant sealife, as well as some unique landscapes.

Enhancing these scenes, you can now take a scenic drive to find murals large and small throughout many of the peninsula towns.

The Yorke Peninsula Art Trail stretches the length and breadth of the peninsula and an interactive map to follow can be found on the Yorke Peninsula tourism website.

To tempt you to take the drive, here are just some of the public art pieces to find in the southern Yorke Peninsula area.

Port Victoria

Near the jetty you can find art painted by Ruth Lock and a mural on the public toilets by H.L Cooper-Lock.

Yorketown

A mural forms the backdrop to the Centenary Gardens in the centre of town and features local landscape scenes.

The water tower mural features crops, bottlebrush, pink salt lakes, historical buildings and the RFDS plane. It was painted by Jasmine Crisp in 2021 and took the artist 37 days to paint the 20 metre tower.

The Weaners Flat mural was painted by Sam Brooks and the designs show elements of Yorketown’s community all brought together by the five main roads that meet at the town’s centre.

Edithburgh

The RSL and bowling club has a mural which was painted by artists, Dylan Butler, Kyle Armstrong and Sabine, and the design wraps around the building.

The water tower is a striking tribute which celebrates the marine life of the Edithburgh jetty. The design was created by artists, Mike Makatron, Conrad Bizjak and Dylan Butler. Creatures include the leafy sea dragon, cuttlefish and striped pyjama squid, along with dolphins and a diver checking them all out.

Another sea life mural can be found in Edithburgh on the wall of the Garage Diner.

Hardwicke Bay

The public toilets have been given a bright improvement thanks to local landscapes artist Jason Swales, with seascapes and pelicans.

Point Turton

Another set of public toilets that have been given the mural treatment can be found on the North Coast Road at Point Turton. Marine life and family fun at the beach are some of the images to see.

Warooka

A couple of new additions have been added to the art trail with Warooka sporting some new paint which the artists were still in the process of completing when we visited.

The murals were painted by local artists including Jason Swales, Rachelle Plazeriano, Carolyn Ramsey, Steph Ball, Lianne Cook and Steve Renfrey and feature indigenous designs, local scenes and they have an interactive element.

When completed they will feature augmented reality which will enable parts of the mural to move when viewed through a downloadable app.

Enjoy the drive and discovering all the artistic communities on Yorke Peninsula.

Cheers

Glenys
