A Dog’s Life (on holidays)

Neo is one lucky kelpie. Firstly he is our much loved family member who we rescued over 5 years ago, so that was his first stroke of luck.  Since then he has happily accompanied us on holidays that a lot of people can only dream of.  The reason he is so welcome has a lot to do with his demeanor.  He is the most gentle and friendly boy and very obedient too. He rarely barks, usually only when he sees someone he knows and they’re taking too long to come and pat him.

Brighton Caravan Park South Australia

We were invited to an impromptu weekend away with friends at Brighton Caravan Park in South Australia which strangely enough we had never set foot in before and in fact didn’t even know of its exact location. This is despite it being only 17 kilometres from Adelaide and pretty much in the neck of woods that I grew up in as a child.  Perhaps that’s exactly why I’d never considered staying there, you think you know all there is to know about an area sometimes, but just like us, places change as they mature.

Family, Farm, Fathers Day

We have just marked Fathers Day again in Australia on the first Sunday in September and for us that means it’s celebrated the way many dads would want. Retro Van Number 3

Continuing on in the series of our caravan progressions, by mid-2013 we were on the lookout for another upgrade of caravan. One thing that can always be an issue in a caravan is finding the right layout and a particular bug bear can be where you sleep. One thing we had decided was that the next van had to have an island bed and be not so, well….orange as the Avondale.  Apart from that, we were still happy generally with the old vans so the search began for a change and perhaps something a little newer than the current 1975 van.

Do dogs look forward to holidays too?

You betcha! Our feeling has always been that dogs enrich your holiday experiences, they are the ones that will always go with you for a walk even if it’s when the sun is rising or after the sun has set.

We have always been kelpie owners and we seem to have been lucky in that after the initial mad puppy stage they have been obedient, eager to please, and intelligent dogs.

Plan That Getaway.

No excuses, plan that getaway you keep putting off now! We are lucky in Australia to have the ability to get away for a short break and not have to travel too far from home, especially if you only have a weekend available. In South Australia, pretty much in no more than two hours of driving you can be a world away.

So what better excuse than to do just that. Got a free weekend? Get out and enjoy it.

So Grateful

Christmas day is only a few days away and I have so much to be grateful for, for starters living in a relatively peaceful country, surrounded with magnificent natural beauty and a climate made for travelling and getting outdoors. The opportunities to learn, work, change your mind, keep learning, then strive to change your path ahead, are abundant and there for the taking if you’re brave enough.
