Anyone in South Australia who has ever taken a drive through the town of Port Elliot will be familiar with the sight of a patient line of people snaking out of the Bakery and filling the outdoor tables and chairs, looking very satisfied with their purchases. The reason apart from the obvious, Hey it’s a bakery and what’s not to love, is they have a very clever marketing idea of producing a ‘Donut of the Month’ that is eagerly awaited by many.
The number one attraction for many visitors to South Australia is the Adelaide Central Market. South Australia is renowned for its food and wine credentials and once you visit this fresh food market it’s easy to understand why. You need to put aside a few hours to really enjoy all that the market has to offer and bring plenty of market bags or a trolley because it probably won’t take too long before you’ll be wanting to fill them.
You are spoilt for choice in the vale with every option from bakeries to fine dining and everything in between. On a recent weekend stay there, I was lucky enough to sample a range of foods, from an iconic South Australian chocolate to the dining equivalent of artistic masterpieces (in my humble non food critic opinion).
