Free (or Cheap) Books for Holiday Reading

Sometimes it’s just your lucky day. Don’t you love it when you’re in the right place at the right time? For instance when returning books to the local library and they happen to have a stash of books that they are giving away. With an offer like that I couldn’t pass by without having a rummage through the assorted books.

It didn’t take long for a few titles to jump out at me. Instead of fiction books these were all non-fiction and ones that should make for very interesting reading. The titles I was lucky enough to pick up were:

Fleurieu Surf

The south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula is always a popular spot for surfers, from novices to the most experienced, there are beaches to suit all abilities in this region around 80 kilometres from Adelaide. Middleton, Goolwa, Waitpinga and Parsons are magnets depending on the daily conditions that suit the different beaches. The beauty of this part of the coast are the long straight beaches and mostly easy access points to surf spots and lots of car parking.

Middleton Beach Whale Watching

The whales are still here in spring! Winter in South Australia is the peak time to see whales along our coastline as they come to breed in warmer waters north of Antarctica. There are a number of well-known whale spotting areas one of which is Head of the Bight and along the Nullarbor coastline. Being over 1000 kilometres from Adelaide this obviously takes a bit of planning to visit at the peak time to see whales, however, you don’t have to venture far from the city to see these awesome creatures and they’re not always far off shore either. They are easily visible from the beach and a standard set of binoculars or camera zoom will give you an even closer look.
