Fancy Friendship Seat

A new and eye catching work of art has joined other colourful pieces around the town of Goolwa on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. Goolwa is a Cittaslow Town and in the spirit of that whole concept, a Friendship Seat has been created out of stone and covered in a colourfully tiled mosaic.

This bright and beautiful seat can be found at Cittaslow corner at the end of Cadell Street and is surrounded by a rose garden. The seat was created by local artists Barbary O’Brien and Mike Tye and shows various aspects of the Goolwa lifestyle in the design and even three large snails in a crawl along the top of the seat, a nod to the Cittaslow symbol. Goolwa community volunteers also had a hand in creating this lovely addition to the town and a practical piece it is too, with visitors welcome to sit and wait for friends while watching the passing traffic in lovely surroundings. A brilliant piece that certainly puts a smile on your face.
