Greenman Inn – Ashbourne South Australia

The drive to this locality between the towns of Meadows and Goolwa in South Australia is a picturesque journey and a lunch stop at the Greenman Inn situated in this little community, around 63 kilometres from Adelaide, is the icing on the cake.

The road and this venue is particularly popular with motorbike riders and car club runs on weekends, so to stop in on a week day gives you a better chance of finding a seat where you want in one of a number of spaces to suit.  The inn is on Bull Creek Road and its heritage looking green striped verandah catches your attention when it comes into view. There is a huge car park area at the back of the inn and part of a stone ruin sits in the backyard of the premises.

The building was originally a post office and general store which was built in 1865 and after renovations were completed in 2018, it opened as the Greenman Inn. You can enjoy a meal from the extensive menu while dining at tables on the verandah watching the passing traffic, or a lawn area, a courtyard or indoors so there are plenty of options no matter what time of year you are here.

The menu has a wide range of food available from vegetarian and salad options to burgers, steaks and seafood. With two pages of choices there is something to suit everyone and the wine list is good too with a lot of locally sourced varieties. The dessert menu is very tempting and the excellent coffee is from De Groot coffee, locally roasted at Port Elliot.
It’s a very child friendly venue with outdoor spaces for them to play and their own menu with a good selection of meals to choose from that aren’t the run of the mill items. Dogs are catered for too with treats and water bowls available for their use.

This is a very comfortable country pub and it would have a very cozy feel at night too with lights strung up through the al fresco courtyard area which also has a pizza oven. At certain times you may also be lucky enough to have live music in the courtyard for entertainment.

The Greenman Inn is open from Wednesdays to Sundays for lunches from 11.45am to 3pm and dinners from 5.45pm to 8.30pm and is a top spot for lunch as you cruise through the Fleurieu Peninsula region.

Cheers

Glenys
