When Art Imitates Life

I’m thrilled to have another short article in the current, winter 2023 edition of On The Road magazine.

It’s amazing how just stopping to take notice of a sculpture in a park can lead to so much interesting information about a town. This happened during a recent trip to the Barossa Valley in South Australia when we paid a visit to one of my favourite places, the town of Greenock.

Greenock has so much to offer in one friendly, compact village. There is an off grid RV camping spot at the town oval, where you can stay for a donation of $5 per night, and from there you can literally walk to enjoy a range of establishments in town.

Of course, being a Barossa town, there are wineries, which are small, boutique and unique, as well as great dining options and a brewery. The hospitality is warm, unhurried and genuine everywhere around town.

The sculpture sits in a small park and is the re-creation of a photograph taken in the early 1920s, which shows the three prominent businessmen sharing a table and a lager together.

Grab a copy of the latest On The Road magazine and you can find out more about who the three Greenock businessmen were, and their contributions and legacy to the town and South Australia, and next time you’re visiting the Barossa you can stop and pay them a visit and share a bevvy!

Cheers

Glenys
