So we’ve been caravanning and camping for a lot of years now, but in the beginning, we made a few rookie mistakes when it came to hitching up and heading off.

I can’t claim that we never have a slip up now, but thankfully they are rare. It made we think though, especially when we were speaking with some friends new to caravanning, that we go through a lot of the processes by habit.

With that in mind I’ve created the Ultimate Caravan Checklist that can be printed and used as a reminder so you can avoid some of those brain fade moments.

The list includes things to remember as you pack down to leave a site, as well as some basic items to pack in the van for general needs.

I haven’t included general items for setting up a caravan including the dinnerware, cutlery and pantry staples etc…as these come down to individual needs and likes. There is a huge range when it comes to types of dinnerware, drinking glasses and mugs with a choice of plastic, melamine, bamboo and toughened glass to name a few.

It won’t take you too many trips away to work out what you need and your preferred type of material, but keep in mind not to add to much weight when packing the caravan.

The final bit of advice is to do a complete walk around the van once you think you’re ready to go, just for one last look to check that vents, aerial and windows are all shut down, and that doors and outdoor cupboards are locked.

Check your hitching and lights on the car and caravan are all correct, then you’re good to go.
