Adelaide has a Heart of Glass

Chihuly in the Botanic Garden is still showing in Adelaide, where you can meander through the lush, green and beautiful Botanic Garden and admire this exhibition of contemporary glass art and sculptures.

It is so spectacular that as well as visiting during the evening to see these breathtaking sculptures lit and looming large at night, we also paid a visit during the day to get a different perspective.

Let me tell you that they are just as impressive during the daylight hours when the sun plays on and through the forms and shows up even more detail. I still find it mind boggling that these incredible sculptures are out in the elements and exclusive to Adelaide.

As well as this exhibition, you can also see other spectacular glass art and sculptures at Adelaide’s leading art and design home, the Jam Factory. Situated in Morphett Street in Adelaide’s west end, Jam Factory is open daily from 10am – 5pm and is free to visit.

On at the moment, is an exhibition called ‘Gathering Light’, which showcases six leading South Australian blown glass artists. The works on show are absolutely astounding and celebrate these Adelaide artists and the incredible pieces they have produced.

In particular I couldn’t believe these stunning cameo glass creations by Jessica Murtagh which are inspired by classical artefacts contrasted with contemporary themes – note the selfie takers in all of the images. The process to make these pieces includes blowing the glass, sandblasting and engraving.

Unfortunately you only have a couple of days left to see this exhibition too, on until Sunday 30th March, but Jam Factory always has something beautiful and interesting to see, including a shop where you can purchase glass art, and you can watch artists in action with live glass blowing in the studio.

Chihuly in the Botanic Garden will be on until 29th of April.

Enjoy
