They appeared in a mob with one being more brazen than the rest, making his way over purposefully and trying to grab the bag out of my grip, but I didn’t hand it over and he soon got the message and moved away. To be fair it was a bag full of picnic food and these were the cutest muggers I’d ever seen.
Their big brown eyes fringed with long eyelashes and wearing a coat of soft grey fur, the kangaroos of Murramarang National Park are a little too friendly sometimes, but they’re adorable and plentiful, when you’re staying the NRMA Murramarang Beachfront Holiday Resort in south Durras, NSW.
They are obviously very familiar with people staying in the park and have no problem hopping into your site, snooping around and then moving on when they’re not rewarded. And, they’re not the only ones. We were visited by rainbow lorikeets, magpies and other birds and you have to keep an eye out for kookaburras which are very quick to swoop in silently and steal food left unattended.

Other than keeping the cheeky wildlife in view and not leaving any food where they can get to it, this resort park is amazing from the white sand beach just a short stroll from your site, to the truly resort facilities, this park surrounded by national park is a little patch of heaven.
During the day you can choose to walk, fish, swim or surf in the local area (all under the watchful eyes of kangaroos) and then relax around the resort pool, have a cocktail or two, grab some takeaway food and even dine in the onsite restaurant.

If you prefer to cater for yourself, then the BBQs and camp kitchens are well kitted out for that or you can stay at your own van and let the wildlife come to you.

If you can drag yourself away from the park and its wildlife, you can take a drive of about 20 kilometres to Batemans Bay where you can discover more beautiful beaches, do a bit of boutique shopping, and dine on some of the local seafood.

You can also find some street art around town and follow a sculpture walk, finding some bigger pieces of art along the way.

For us though, this stay was all about taking time just to appreciate the beautiful surroundings at the Murramarang caravan park and enjoy being surrounded by wildlife. The kangaroos were around day and night and sunrise at the beach was something special with the roos seemingly loving it too.

Enjoy Murramarang National Park.

Gosh, we’ll have to put that one on our list. It looks as good as NRMA Darlington Beach. Kangaroos make such wonderful holiday companions.

Someone told us about this place and it was terrific, we went there for the kangaroos and cocktails. 😀
We stopped in to look at Pambula too and that park was on the beach and had plenty of kangaroos too, one for another time.
