Marree is one of the last towns to visit before you start entering desert country in South Australia. It’s over 650 kilometres from Adelaide in Arabunna country. It’s the junction of the Oodnadatta and Birdsville tracks and although there’s not a lot to the town itself, the hub is the hotel and it’s quite an oasis in this desert environment.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a unique and vital medical service in Australia. It provides 24 hour emergency healthcare over the entire country, covering an area of more than seven and a half million square kilometres. Not only do they provide emergency care to people living, working and travelling in rural and remote areas, but they provide clinics, preventative health programs, access to specialists and much more.
May this year marks 90 years that the Royal Flying Doctor Service has been operating in Australia. This is a group that I donate to every year because of the uniqueness of what they do and how necessary it is in our vast country.
