Congratulations to the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong Tourism Alliance for winning the ‘Tourism Marketing & Campaigns’ category at the South Australian Tourism Awards night 2021.
This collective tourism body is made up of five councils in South Australia ~ the Rural City of Murray Bridge, Coorong District Council, Mid Murray Council, District Council of Karoonda East and the Alexandrina Council.
They won the award for the 2020-21 Murray River, Lakes and Coorong Marketing Strategy and Campaigns.
In August 2020 I was fortunate to be chosen to submit a photo for the Murray River Lakes and Coorong website, along with other South Australian photographers. The page and my entry read as follows:
‘This month, we spoke to some of our favourite South Australian photographers about exactly why the Murray River, Lakes & Coorong region is fast-becoming one of their top places to photograph.
Whether itโs the exceptional darkness of our internationally credited night skies, magic sunrises over the lower lakes and Coorong, untouched landscapes in our conservation parks, brilliant colours amongst our botanic gardens, historic paddlesteamers lining the Murray River wharves, or the layers and lines provided by the Mannum waterfalls โ this region is a landscape photographers haven’.

โThe Coorong is an iconic natural environment to photograph.
Visiting the Coorong feels like stepping into an untouched natural world. The clean water and white sand dunes are home to pelicans, emus and kangaroos and itโs the most peaceful of places to spend time in.
This National Park area is only accessible by boat or 4WD and the opportunities to take great photos are everywhere. If your favourite types of photography are landscapes and wildlife in nature, then this is the destination for you.
For more river views in Goolwa I like to have lunch at Bombora on the River, and take a walk to the historic wharf precinct for a local wine at the Wharf Barrel Shed while watching boats glide by.โ
Congratulations on a great win and now, the secret of this wonderful region is out!
Cheers
Glenys
We’ve driven through the Coorong but only stopped for a little while. Must rectify that in the future.

One of the few natural areas left I think.
