If you’re looking for an activity the whole family can enjoy this weekend, head on down to Goolwa Beach on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of December, for the SA Kiteboarding State Wave Titles.
The event will be held from the end of the 4WD track on the beach, to the area in front of the Surf Lifesaving Club and with a huge expanse of sand, car parking (on and off the beach), the Kuti Shack for food and drinks and handy public toilets, everything is in place for a fun day out for adults and kids.
The event is being run by Kiteboarding SA in partnership with the CABRINHA kiteboard and kitesurfing brand, and is part of the National Wave Series. The best male and female riders in the state will be contesting the titles so it should be a weekend of amazing tricks and displays for spectators on the beach.

The judging system they use is similar to the World Surf League with multiple judges scoring the competitiors on wave selection and execution of tricks and skills on the waves. There are a number of divisions for competitiors from juniors, amateurs, open men’s and women’s competitions, right up to masters aged 35 -54 years and Legends, aged 55+.

There will also be a come and try opportunity with trainer kites on the beach between 11am and 1pm on both days for interested spectators to have a go!
All we need is the wind and waves to do the right thing over the weekend and it will be an awesome spectacle, just like the photos in this post which I took a few years ago in Geraldton WA.
Cheers
Glenys
So skilled aren’t they. I’d never be able to stay so balanced!
