Recently these two caravan product recalls have been in the news again, and it appears that not everyone has seen or heard the message. Using them could have serious, even fatal consequences so the word needs to get out to anyone who has them in their caravans.
For those of us who use social media regularly these issues came to light quite a while ago but in conversations with friends lately, some who don’t use any form of social media, it was new to them.
So in an effort to make sure that the message gets through to anyone it could affect, please read about the issues here, follow the links to the manufacturers warnings which are in this post, and please bring it up in conversation with caravanning mates, just in case they haven’t heard.
Safety Recall on Suburban brand Water Heaters:
The issue: The flange that secures the burner heat exchanger tube to the internal front fascia of the appliance may not be properly formed. During use on gas, hot water services with the defect may emit carbon monoxide into the caravan or motorhome.
What to do: Check to see if you have one of these affected Suburban models, by opening the exterior access door to the hot water service and check the model and serial number on the right hand side. The models of concern are: (SW6PA, SW6DEA, SW6DA, SW4DEA, SW4DA, SW4DECA and SW6DECA with serial numbers between 181315552 and 193002648 (some serial numbers may end with a ‘D’) and between 8183311827 and 8190201139. Manufactured between 4 April 2018 and 1 August 2019).
If you do have one of the models mentioned, have your water heater inspected by a licensed gasfitter and if necessary the water heater will be replaced.

Safety Recall on Swift brand Cooker/Grill and Cooktop
The issue: A part of the gas supply pipe in the front left burner may break or develop a hole which can cause the gas to leak. If a leak was to occur in the presence of an ignition source it could lead to an explosion and/or fire.
What to do: Check the date plate by opening the glass lid of the cooktop and check the model number that is located on the inside front left side of the lid. Cookers manufactured between 1 January 2019 and 31 May 2020 have been recalled so if this affects your van, consumers are advised to ensure that the left front burner control knob is in the off position and the knob removed until further action is taken.

Remember to bring up these recalls in conversation with other caravanners and help keep each other safe.

Luckily we don’t have either of these brands. Good to spread the word for everyone.

Yes lucky for us we didn’t have them either. I was prompted to write the post after finding out that some friends hadn’t heard about the issues, because they aren’t on any social media.
