After 13 nights on the road, we’ve made it to our first main destination in Queensland, and that is Townsville.
The trip so far has been pretty perfect with the weather slowly getting warmer and more consistent as we’ve headed north. The Landcruiser and Jayco Silverline are going well (as expected) and most of the stops we had in our plans have fit the bill for what we were after.
From leaving home at Goolwa Beach in SA, our overnight or 2 night stops have been:
Karoonda SA – Mildura Vic – Hillston NSW – Bourke NSW – Cunnamulla Qld – Augathella Qld – Blackall Qld – Longreach Qld – Hughenden Qld – Charters Towers Qld – Townsville Qld.

We’ve travelled more than 3,000 kilometres from home and by far the biggest expense so far has been diesel with expenditure a little over $1200.00 to date. The price per litre has ranged from $1.75 to $2.00 so not too bad overall. Our daily kilometres travelled have ranged from 136kms to the longest day of 470kms.

So far the stops have included caravan parks, and a couple of country showgrounds which have been terrific for giving a group of travellers the option to stay together in a chosen space, but also providing power (if wanted) and ablution blocks.

Our cheapest stay was at Augathella, a $5 donation (but then we spent a heap at the pub!) and the most expensive is our current stay at $54 per night, at the Tasman Holiday Park, Rowes Bay, Townsville. Not that we’re complaining the location and facilities are top notch.

We’ve managed to catch a few colourful sunrises and sunsets so far and had some great evenings enjoying campfires under the stars and happy hours with our travelling buddies. There have been loads of laughs and great memories already and sooooo many photos to sift through at a later stage.

If the blogs are a bit slow it’s due to having too much on to stop and catch up but, you can always see what we are up to and where we are in the country, via my Instagram and Facebook pages.

Cheers
Glenys

There are plenty of free camps in northern Queensland too so it’s easy to spread the cost. Happy travels.
