Summer Holidays January ‘24

Another fun filled holiday at Moonta Bay on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula is drawing to a close, and this year’s holiday brought with it the usual gamut of weather from storms and torrential rain to steaming hot summer days and nights.

There were lots of catch ups with friends, joyful days with family and their friends, and many fishing trips in the boat, which proved to be mostly successful.

Each year brings new challenges in thinking of ways to prepare seafood differently, and some of the recipes tried this year may eventually make their way into publications later this year.

We always find that the best of times go hand in hand with sharing food with our extended ‘holiday family’, and this year didn’t disappoint. Pizza night and curry night are always eagerly anticipated as are seafood smorgasbords.

We also look forward to a homemade dosa brunch on one day, this has now also become a must do every year. There are always plenty of fine wines that have been kept aside during the year to share with friends at this time, as well as any new gin varieties we’ve bought.

It’s as much a holiday for people and pets, and everyone’s dogs seem just as eager for this beach holiday too and this year, they had a new generation eager to shower them with pats and cuddles.

Fishing trips were enjoyed on the days when the weather cooperated and on some days, the tranquil waters of the bay are like watching an aquarium. Catching fish feels like a bonus when you can sit in the summer sunshine, bobbing about peacefully while watching stingrays skimming along the sand beneath you.

They are looking for crabs to steal from the nets dropped, but you can usually see if any crabs are in them and pull them up quickly before the stingrays swoop.

The caravan park is always a source of fun with fun loving people enjoying their holidays and never failing at putting smiles on everyone’s faces.

This New Year was brought in with an explosion of fireworks and a shared dinner with friends, where we all managed to make it to midnight.

Some days were spent exploring the local towns and seeking out some old and new street art.

As per usual though, Mother Nature put on some of the best displays with colourful sunsets.

Thanks to all our wonderful family and friends for making another summer of laughs, good times and great memories.

And now we look forward to a happy, healthy and successful year, full of more travels and tales to tell.

Cheers

Glenys
