This is a really exciting project for me and there’s nothing like diving into the deep end with something new is there?
It couldn’t get much more ambitious than this, but I’ll be having some photographs projected on 30 foot tall concrete silos, for everyone to see as they pass through or visit the town of Karoonda in South Australia.
Each night throughout August, the Karoonda Silos are one of the venues taking part in the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival.
This unique outdoor exhibition, will have digital projections of artwork lighting up the main street silos, creating a spectacle visible from near and far. This unique platform offers artists and photographers the rare opportunity to see their creations magnified on an epic concrete canvas!
This year the theme for the SALA festival is ‘THINK BIG’ and it will be an exhibition to explore the scale, possibility and imagination of public art. Challenging artists to not only dream big but to see their art in a form that stretches beyond conventional gallery walls, magnified under the dark sky in regional South Australia.

A few months ago there was a call for submissions for artists and photographers who wanted to take part in this event, so I thought why not, and entered a few photos in hope.
I was absolutely thrilled when I was chosen as one of the 31 artists to participate. I chose to submit three landscape photos which I thought encompassed the theme of THINK BIG. They are big, beautiful vistas from different parts of South Australia.
The projection will take place each night throughout August, once the sun has set and the light projection show will run for 30 minutes, before it restarts and plays on a continuous loop, from sunset until approximately 11:00pm each night.
The Karoonda Silos are located in the main street of the Mallee town, in South Australia, about 145 kilometres east of Adelaide, and there is a caravan and cabin park where you can stay, just down the road from the silos.

As the Karoonda Silos are outdoors, it makes it very easy to view the exhibition. There is plenty of car parking next to and right across to road from the silos where you can pull up and view the show. There are even dedicated bench seats located right in front of the silos along a garden path. A word of warning though, bring plenty of warm clothes to rug up in, including coat, scarf, beanie and gloves. It gets mighty cold in these parts.

The opening night which includes a celebration with food and drinks and the first showing of the art and photography will take place on Saturday 3rd of August. I’m absolutely thrilled and slightly terrified.
