A story of serendipity

I love writing blogs about our trips and imparting tips that hopefully help others to plan fun filled holidays. My website also helps in celebrating writing or photography successes which in some cases, add to the coffers helping to keep us adventuring.

More views of the website can mean a snowball effect for other opportunities too.

Take for instance a serendipitous email I received back in April this year, via my β€˜contact me’ page, in which an Australian film maker asked if she could use a photo from my website, for an upcoming short film they were making.

My first thought was YES even before reading too much of the email. Basically the film was to be about body surfing in Australia and the people who participate in the sport. The main focus of course would be on the participants of the sport and no doubt there will be some incredible surf footage in the film. They were also interviewing people from the sport and needed a backdrop of an old 70s van for one of these interviews.

The producer of the film explained that she had noticed a photograph on my website that they were interested in using in exchange for my name appearing in the film credits. Who could say no!

The photograph was of one of our old 70s caravans that we had bought second hand, in the early days of our caravanning journeys.  The caravan was a 16 foot, 1973 Viscount Ambassador, and we had plenty of fun beach holidays in this van when our kids were younger. Apparently it was just the look they were after for part of this short film, when a bodysurfer shares stories about his childhood.

The film has now been completed and had its first screening for cast and crew in Sydney recently. Β It’s called β€˜Whomp – the froth and fraternity’ and I’m happy to say that my photo has stayed in the production and apparently β€˜worked a charm’ for the scene in which it appears. The film will be entered into film festivals soon, so when I hear any more information I’ll let people know in case you want to catch a screening of it near you. Film – Whomp-the froth and fratenity

Cheers

Glenys
