Foodie Road Trips

12 apostles gourmet food trail

Hello, you had me at foodie!

Who doesn’t love a produce trail where you can get to know a region by enjoying the local food and drinks as you go?

I must admit for us when we’re touring, that’s always one of the first things we look at, when we choose a destination. Are there local markets or foods that the region is known for? Are there wineries, breweries or distilleries? If the answer is yes then we know that we will be staying for a least a few days to explore them all.

A few of our favourite journeys that have included tasting the best of local produce have included these:

The 12 Apostles Gourmet Food Trail, as part of touring along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

Adelaide Central Market especially during the Tasting Australia festival (coming again soon, from 2-11 May 2025).

South Australia’s Clare Valley for divine wine and food.

Some Queensland favourites where food, wine and experiences all get a big tick. (Top 16 Qld)

And of course, the Barossa Valley with its fantastic farmers market and wineries is a must see. My top tip for the best secret location in the Barossa is to visit the nearby village of Greenock.

The Barossa Valley region was the inspiration behind my two latest recipes which can be found in the April edition of The Wanderer magazine. The recipes will set you up with a main course of a hearty German bratwurst hot dog with a homemade coleslaw, and for dessert, an apple and rhubarb crumble. The perfect combination to enjoy during the cooler nights of autumn road trips, and made using seasonal market produce that you’ve bought in your travels.

The Wanderer magazine is available only to CMCA members and the April edition is online now with hard copies out soon.

Enjoy

Glenys
