I’ve written a destination piece on the wine growing region of McLaren Vale and surrounds for the November issue of Liquid Life & Leisure magazine online.
This region is an easy day trip from Adelaide but with so much on offer from more than 70 wineries, a craft brewery, fine dining, nearby farmers market, cycle trail and unique, zany architecture, really interesting shopping and artisans’ stores you will want to stay a few days at least to make the most of it.
The McLaren Vale Lakeside Holiday Park is a green oasis to use as a base with a walking / cycle track running behind it and it’s just a short walk into the town. The Willunga farmers market is nearby and is one of the best in South Australia.

This region is a favourite of mine to visit fairly regularly and yet every time I’m there I seem to find something new and interesting to experience; in fact a long weekend is in the planning to visit again very soon so I’ll let everyone in on any new discoveries too.

We stayed at McLaren Vale in 2008 and it was lovely but I can’t remember these great places being open. Perhaps there’s been a lot of development since then. Time for another trip I think.

Some of these places have only popped up in the last couple of years and have made a great destination to visit even better. I’m going back to find more again soon.

The food and beverage industry seems to be flourishing everywhere. We have so many cafes and restaurants now. I’m not complaining. It’s great to have such an amazing choice.
