We are just days away from hitting the road for a few months of caravanning, firstly through Victoria and New South Wales until our ultimate destination of far north Queensland.
I (Glenys) will be trying to keep up the blog posts while gathering information and photos for future stories for magazine and online publications. My husband (Harry) will be driving, and country pub finding, and together we hope to find lots of interesting places, people and stories to pass on.
Communication and internet access even in remote parts of Australia is pretty good these days, but we know there are also plenty of places where we will struggle to find reception and connection – which isn’t a bad thing either sometimes.
We have a rough plan for the first two months that we’re away but after that we will be winging it. We usually prefer not to have to book ahead too much, but because it’s winter in the southern states and everyone is heading north for the warmer weather, we have had to book some places to be sure.

Something that we are both looking forward to and excited about, is our intention to travel to the tip of Cape York – the northern most mainland point of Australia. We’ve been to the furthest points west and east, so this is the latest one to tick off our list. For this part of the journey we will be doing something we haven’t done for a long time and that is roughing it in a tent!
Although we’ve read plenty of accounts of people taking their caravans all the way to the tip, we’d rather not take ours on unpredictable corrugated dirt roads, water crossings and red dirt dips and washouts, so we made the decision to take an easy to set up and pack away tent. We think we can manage one more tenting adventure, let’s hope so! It could make for some very interesting and funny stories.

Anyway I’ll update our adventures on the website as we go and keep adding to the social media with lots of photos and stories on Instagram, (my favourite), Facebook and maybe even YouTube. I thought it might be interesting to put up some movies of some of our better adventures that may just give others a good idea of the terrain and journeys we are taking.

And for people also out there touring at the moment, keep an eye out for us on the road, we’ve now branded our caravan with a sticker on the back of the Silverline – caravancorrespondent.com so if you see us, don’t be shy come over and say Hello, we’re always up for a happy hour chat to swap stories.

Hopefully we can help others with a few tips if planning the same kind of adventure.
Cheers and see you on the road!
Glenys

Smart move to tent it up the Cape. Gives you a lot more flexibility for side trips e.g. we camped at the out-of-the-way Vrilya Point for a few days. Absolutely no way a van would get in there.

Yes we’ve read lots of opinions about taking caravans to the cape and sure it’s doable but I know we’ll be more relaxed leaving it safe and sound for us to come back to, no dust or dents. 😁

Thank you and I hope you have a good trip too. We’d be lost without our diesel heater, there will still be very chilly mornings in the interior for a while.
