This year again I applied to have some photos projected onto the silos at Karoonda, as part of the SALA (South Australia Living Artists) Festival in August, and was thrilled to be notified that I was successful.

The theme for this year’s festival was ‘After the Harvest’ and artists / photographers could submit up to four pieces for the show. I went with a literal interpretation and submitted photographs of rural scenes in SA, showing farms and typical scenes after harvest.

SALA Festival is on each year for the entire month of August and the silo projections in Karoonda happen every night from 5 – 11pm during the month, so anyone travelling through can see the show, which includes the work of 16 artists.

Because the projected images look best in the dark of night I’d highly recommend staying at the Karoonda Tourist Park to see the show at its best. From the park (which includes caravan and camping sites as well as cabins), you can walk to the silos and the hotel is nearby across the road for a meal before the show.

The opening night event was held on Friday 14^th of August, and as in previous years it was to be a celebration for the artists, friends and supporters, and anyone else interested in attending. We had planned to be there for the evening, but unfortunately sometimes, sh*t happens and a spanner was thrown into the works so we had to cancel our plans.

But…the wonderful organisers (thank you District Council of Karoonda, and in particular Sarah Murdoch) were good enough to take photos of my images on the silos so I could be there in spirit.

The photos were all taken during our travels and to me they absolutely capture the essence of Australia and the big open spaces we love so much about it.
