My favourite kind of street art are the murals and pieces you find when you’re not even looking for them! Some of these latest finds for me, have been around for quite a while in Adelaide but I hadn’t made the time to go and find them so it’s a happy accident when I stumbled across them on an unrelated journey making a good day even better.
The town of Warrnambool in Victoria has a profusion of public art to find as you walk the streets and alleyways. From statues to whole wall murals, quirky smaller pieces and mosaics, there are a multitude of artistic styles to find.
Here’s a few of the examples I found around town.
The laneways of Melbourne are well known for the street art, a couple of the best are ACDC Lane and Hosier Lane. As the name suggests, ACDC Lane has a lot of art that pays homage to the great Aussie rock band of the same name and in particular to Bon Scott and Malcom Young. Credit goes to artists Lushsux & Mike Makatron, Steen Jones and Putos (amongst others) for their work in these laneways.
