This annual event held by Surfing SA is over for another year and great spectacle it was again for visitors to Middleton Point on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Even if you’re not a regular surf competition attendee or know anything much about the sport of surfing, (guilty) it’s a colourful, family friendly festival to visit and interesting to watch the talented surfers carving up the waves to score points in timed trials.
The aim was to make the finals and take out the state titles for their particular event.
The festival was held over the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of April and as well as showcasing the best competitors in shortboard, longboard, twin fin and mid length events, there was also a come and try opportunity and street market held over the two days.

The market featured live music, food trucks, local wine and beer, surf art, clothing and other surf paraphernalia stalls. A range of surf schools were also operating on the Sunday.

Middleton Point is a regular surfing spot for locals and visitors to flock to and it has consistent surf with places for beginners and the more experienced to give it a go anytime. For spectators there is a cliff top overlooking the beach where you can stand and watch surfers and take photos of the action.

It was a terrific event for the whole family to participate in or watch, with events for kids through to seniors, men and women, and inter club events.

This annual event is one to keep on the radar with results and information on next year’s event to be found on the Surfing SA website and social media.

Enjoy

I don’t think I would be any good at surfing but I do enjoy watching those who are.

One of the best bits about surfing is its welcoming and down-to-earth community. So, what better way to embrace its lifestyle and culture than enjoying a weekend at a surf festival? And it doesn’t matter what level you’re at (or if you surf at all) surf festivals are the place to be if you love the ocean.

I agree Aiva, anytime spent by the ocean is good for the mind, body and soul. 💙
