Celebrating 10 Years of Caravan Holidays in print

This year marks 10 years of my freelance writing journey and having stories and photos published in numerous Australian publications and websites, so I’m taking the opportunity to mark the occasion and celebrate.

It was 2015 when I decided to jump in and try my hand at freelance writing and I’m really pleased to say that to this day, I’m still having stories published in major publications.

Along the way I’ve also had some articles in online magazines and websites, including RV Daily, Unsealed 4×4, Tasman Holiday Parks and Campermate. It’s also been a labour of love to have improved my photography skills along the way.

Every year I enter the Australian Photographer of the Year competition to challenge myself, and have been pretty happy to receive commendations for my entries most years, and last year was the best result yet with a Highly Commended award for my portfolio of photos taken in South Australia’s outback.

The hardest part of freelance writing is always daring to throw your hat into the ring when it comes to pitching to publication editors, and pushing through those imposter feelings. I’ve always found a ‘Why not me’ attitude pays off though and there’s nothing better than seeing your words and photos in print to boost your confidence. More than 40 years of caravan, camping, fishing and 4WD holidays and experiences has helped too.

My very first published story was in the magazine ‘Time to Roam’ in 2015 and since then I’m proud to have had stories in a range of publications including On The Road, RAA Motor, 4WD Touring Australia, Australian Caravan & RV magazine, Fishing SA, and The Wanderer amongst others.

My Caravan Correspondent blog has also been going for the same amount of time and over the years it’s gone from attracting a few hundred views a year to well over 60,000 now, and it’s consistently been named in the top 20 Best Australian Caravan Blogs on Feedspot, for the past few years.

And now I look forward to bringing more of the same and letting everyone know of the beautiful, interesting and quirky places to visit around Australia as we discover them ourselves.

Cheers and thanks for the support

Glenys

  1. Well worth celebrating! Hope there’s a glass of wine involved…

Australia was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and I am unlikely to return – but if I do, you are my go-to for quirky art installations, and interesting food venues.

    1. Thank you so much and yes, there’s a definite chance of wine involved as our present holiday comes to an end. I love following stories of overseas bloggers too, taking me to places I will probably never visit in this lifetime. Thanks for reading and I hope it brings you some great memories of Australia. 🐨🥰

      1. I only had a month; after a few days in Sydney, down to Canberra for a week, then a couple of weeks around Uluru and the MacDonnell Range. In such a large country, I was barely scratching the surface! But not a trip I’m likely to ever forget… Kangaroos boxing on the middle school playing fields, anyone?!?
