Adelaide Street Art

Street art AdelaideThe nature of street art or urban art is that it always seems to be added to or changed altogether so with every visit into the city centre I try to visit streets and laneways I haven’t looked at before to find something new. On a recent visit to Adelaide I managed to find a few that were new to me but not necessarily new to the city.

I’m finding now that having been a fan of street art for a few years I’m beginning to recognise the style of some of the incredible artists who paint or spray these grand scale paintings. Here are a few of the my latest finds and where you can see them.

The Very Cool & Tasty Fitzroy

Just 3 kilometres out of Melbourne city is the suburb of Fitzroy. A number of reasons have made this a must see and experience destination when in Melbourne. It has become well known for its little bars, restaurants & cafes, street art and markets. My tip would be to head there on a Saturday morning and spend a few hours discovering markets, enjoying a breakfast or brunch and wandering around looking at the street art and shops. It’s easily accessible on a tram route or there are a couple of pay car parks in the street.

Melbourne Street Art Everywhere You Look

The laneways of Melbourne are well known for the street art, a couple of the best are ACDC Lane and Hosier Lane. As the name suggests, ACDC Lane has a lot of art that pays homage to the great Aussie rock band of the same name and in particular to Bon Scott and Malcom Young. Credit goes to artists Lushsux & Mike Makatron, Steen Jones and Putos  (amongst others) for their work in these laneways.

Weekend in ‘Radelaide’ – Such a Cool Cool World.

Adelaide city is mental at this time of year, it’s called Mad March for a reason! The Fringe is on for starters which if you’ve never been, is Australia’s biggest ticket selling open access arts festival.

The city is abuzz every night, it is nuts! Live music everywhere, all types of performers, comedians, magic etc… Parks, gardens, clubs and all sorts of venues have something going on.

Artsing about in Western Australia.

In the January / February issue of On The Road Magazine this year I had an article on finding street art when you’re on holidays. It’s a great way to get to know a town or city by walking around and finding little back alleys which can sometimes be a treasure trove of artworks.

I’m finding that more and more places in Australia, and a lot of them rural, are really taking to having festivals and events where local artists can show their creativity. They are also doing a great service in covering some unsightly buildings, ablution blocks etc… with colour and humour thrown in.

Street Art, Go Out and Find Some

Lately I seem to be noticing street art popping up everywhere in our travels.  These amazing finds are not only in inner cities but in large and small rural towns too.

We were lucky enough to be told of  a particular piece of street art to look for when we were in Toowoomba in 2016 and by getting lost in the back alleys we came across an amazing array of art.
