Australian Street Art Awards 2022

The Australian Street Art Awards have recently been held and winners in a variety of categories were awarded as being the best in 2022.

These tourism awards were established in 2018 with the aim of showcasing public arts around Australia and provide recognition to communities, including those in remote and regional areas that are promoting their destinations as more attractive places to visit.

The awards recognise excellence and innovation in art tourism.

The artworks entered donโ€™t have to be new either, they can be of any age, created anytime in the past, as long as they are used to help promote a region, town or precinct.

Eligible art include publicly visible outdoor art such as murals, permanent audio visual and lighting installations, pavement art, sculptures, monuments and memorials. Awards are given for the artworks that enhance visitor appeal and bolster community pride.

Categories for the awards and the winners for 2022 were:

Best Mega Mural – Quorn silo light show (SA)

Best external mural – Sanctum Darwin (NT)

Best art laneway – Banna Lane, Griffith (NSW)

Best street art trail – Tongala street art trail (Vic)

Best landmark sculpture – DYIPNI Da king of da road (WA)

Best sculpture park or trail – Hello koalas sculpture trail (NSW)

Best rural art – Bute silo art (SA)

Best monument or memorial – Southern Aurora memorial (Violet Town Vic)

Best festival or event – Swell sculpture festival (Qld)

Best entrance art – The last lion, Burwood Chinatown (NSW)

Best street art tour – Frankston street art walking tours (Vic)

These were all gold award winners, and in each of the categories there are also silver and bronze winners. All of the details and more information on the winners, can be found on the Australian Street Art Awards website.

Of the winners this year I can certainly agree with the South Australian winners, and you can read more about them here: ย Bute silo art and Quorn silo light show.

Make sure to note a few of your favourites and plan a visit next time youโ€™re travelling in the areas.

Enjoy

  1. Australia has some beautiful street art, I remember seeing (not sure where) a photo of a spectacular Black Octopus mural – it was such a cool piece of art. Thanks for sharing and have a good day ๐Ÿ™‚ Aiva xx
